Amanda Vähämäki

Amanda Vähämäki (Tampere, Finland, 1981) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, where she began to publish her own edition of short comics. She soon got in contact with with a group of young authors from Bologna who had just created the collective Canicola in 2004. She started to publish with them in their collective books. She has also been published in several European anthologies.

Her first solo album, The Bun Field (Campo di baba) was published by Canicola in 2006. That same year, after graduating, she returned to Finland, where since then she has been part of the Finnish collective KutiKuti. In 2007, The Bun Field was translated into Finnish, French and Swedish, copublished by Fremok and Daadabooks. That same year the album was released in Serbia, published by Fabrika Knjiga, in the Studiostrip collection.

Amanda Vähämäki brings a new energy to independent European comics. Her pencil drawing gives a painterly sensibility and her stories have a significant literary style and a suggestive atmosphere very difficult to achieve.
